Magistrates Court Grants Bail For Fisherman

A fisherman, who was allegedly found carrying $23,000 worth of methamphetamine in his car, was granted bail by the Magistrates Court in Labasa yesterday.

Rajinesh Roneel Prasad, 39, charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs appeared before Magistrate Cama Tuberi.

He informed the court that he would engage a private lawyer.

No plea was taken.

Labasa Police Prosecutor didn’t object to bail.

Magistrate Tuberi released the accused on strict bail conditions.

It was heard that the Police stopped the accused on Thursday morning last week at the James Madhavan Street junction in Labasa.

They searched the car and found small clear plastic bags containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine.

The case has been adjourned for mention on February 10.
