Rates Remain The Same For Both Suva And Lami

Ratepayers in Suva and Lami will not be subjected to an increase in rates as Suva City and Lami Town Councils have decided to keep their rates the same for 2020.
Suva and Lami special administrator team chairperson Isikeli Tikoduadua announced this yesterday.
He said the two municipalities had a plan to improve its service delivery this year. He said the councils also realised that any increase would also need consultations.
He said they would be working closely with citizens, businesses and all stakeholders.
“We want our ratepayers to be able to see the changes we provide for them,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“And as stated earlier, all ratepayers who pay their rates in full in January will receive a 7 per cent discount and 4 per cent discount for the following month.
“I have informed the management of the two councils on the need to strengthen service delivery to ensure greater provision of services for its citizens.”
Mr Tikoduadua also extended his appreciation for those ratepayers who had been able to come forward and settle their outstanding rates during the amnesty period.
According to the Suva City Council, 614 defaulters made use of the amnesty period to pay their rates while 29 was for the Lami Town Council.
Mr Tikoduadua said the council would liaise with ratepayers who were still defaulting and if nothing worked, then legal action would be taken.
