A 23-year-old woman from Gau, who is alleged to have struck a man with a knife, has been remanded in custody by the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday.

Karala Vitila appeared before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa, charged with one count of act intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged that on December 29, 2019, in Gau, with intention to cause grievous bodily harm, Vitila struck Filippe Wilikibau with a kitchen knife thereby causing him injuries.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Gandhi Prasad served the full phase of Disclosures to the accused.

Vitila had opted for legal representation from the Legal Aid Commission.

Magistrate Daurewa said the offence Vitila was charged with was an indictable offence. He transferred the matter to the High Court in Suva.

The matter is adjourned for First Call in the High Court on January 20.
