Rehabilitation works on Albert Park is progressing as scheduled.

The $16 million park will re-open as announced on February 1, 2020, says the Suva City Council.

Suva and Lami special administrator chair Isikeli Tikoduadua said a large number of people were eagerly anticipating the park re-opening.

“The park was closed to allow for rehabilitation work and to ensure that the pitch is in perfect condition,” he said.

“The pitch is made up of an imported variety of grass and we found that weed had started invading the pitch. Apart from that, we had to do the prescribed rehabilitation.”

While Albert Park had a historical significance to Fijians, Mr Tikoduadua said the council realised how it had become a popular meeting place for residents in Suva.
