Health Risks Worry Nasinu Residents

Overflowing waste is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria forming, insects and other diseases.
That fear worries many residents in Nasinu, who continue to see rubbish being piled on the side of the road increasing in volume.
Despite the many complaints of the kitchen refuse and green waste not collected by the Nasinu Town Council, these piles of rubbish continue to be an eyesore in the area.
Nadawa resident Jameel Raza said their rubbish had not been collected since November last year.
“Mosquitoes are infesting in the water-filled cups, tyres and other wastes,” he said.
“Not only are the children at risk, but we the adults can fall sickly too.”
Utra Wati said there were now many flies in the area as a result of the rubbish pile-up.
“We can’t breathe the fresh air. We have to keep our windows closed because of the bad smell coming from the rubbish piles and flies,” she said.
“The council would collect the garbage from my gate, but they will not collect the rubbish that has piling up since November 2019.”
Luse Watirakula said the rubbish pile also blocked drains when it rained heavily.
The residents are still waiting desperately on the council to clear away the rubbish piles.
