The trial for former Suva lawyer Shazran Lateef and former Hibiscus contestant Zoe Maharaj-Moore has been fixed for June.

Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa fixed the matter for trial to start from June 15 to June 17, this year.

He also cancelled the bench warrant, which was issued on Maharaj-Moore by the Magistrates Court in Suva, as she had failed to appear in court on the last occasion.

Lateef and Maharaj-Moore are being charged with three counts of being found in possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that Lateef and Maharaj-Moore, on July 14, 2019, at Raiwaqa, without lawful authority, were in possession of 7.89 grams of methamphetamine, 12.49 grams of cocaine, and 2.5 grams of marijuana, all illicit drugs.

Maharaj-Moore’s lawyer Gavin O’Driscoll told the court that on the last occasion, he had told the court that his client was sick and hence she could not attend court.

He also told the court that his client was unable to produce a medical certificate to the court yesterday and would do so on the next court date.

He also made an application for the bench warrant to be cancelled, which was granted by the Magistrate.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Ravi Narayan told the court that the prosecution had 10 proposed witnesses for the matter.

The matter has been adjourned for hearing on June 15.
