Margaret Fatima Tabua, Sylvia Tuisese and Maria Rokotuisiga have joined the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s extended training squad.

The three were part of the Fijiana Under -18 team that reached the Plate semi-finals during the 2019 World School Sevens last month in Auckland. The side lost to BC Elite Canada Girls 35-14.

Fuli said one of the players need game time and will play in the Coral Coast 7s next week in Sigatoka.

“It was hard to pull players from clubs because there is no competition at the moment so we were able to use players from the Fijiana U18,” Fuli said.

“They will join us and next week, we will then split the squad as one will play in the Coral Coast 7s and some will rest to prepare for the Hamilton 7s.”

Fuli said in terms of injury they are still trying to assess which players will be fit to play in the the upcoming tournaments.

“There are two injuries that we are trying to assess but time will tell,” he added.

“There are some players who will need more game time and will give them a run next week at the Coral Coast Sevens.

“With three weeks ahead of us and the new format, we just need to abide by it and continue to plan for the Hamilton.

“The Coral Coast Sevens is all part of our plan to prepare for the Hamilton and Sydney tournaments.”

The team is in Pool A with England, China and New Zealand in Hamilton. The team plays England at 9.58am, China at 3.36pm on January 25 and the Black Ferns on at 9.35am on January 26.
