100 New Doctors Receive Postings

More than 100 new doctors received their first posting this week.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete confirmed this yesterday.

He said these doctors were graduates from the Fiji National University and University of Fiji.

“45 doctors were posted to Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital in Suva, 27 to Labasa Hospital and 30 to Lautoka Hospital,” Dr Waqainabete said.

“I was present during their orientation programme at the three hospitals this week.”

He said there were vacancies available and Government was keen to continue to employ more doctors and nurses.

“I have informed the doctors about the expectations of Government because they are now Government employees which means they are part of providing essential services to the public.

“I told them that recently we had measles mass campaign and Tropical Cyclone Sarai. Our medical staff have shown lot of dedication and commitment going out to provide services.

“I have shared with them about our universal health coverage where we need to understand and work towards making sure that no one is left behind,” he added.

“Doctors should fulfill their responsibilities at the same time we need to understand that there are certain things these new doctors can do and certain things they can’t do.

Dr Waqainabete said the addition of new doctors would provide better services.
