Ministry Of Health, Town Council Talk On Solving Rubbish Issue

Rubbish piling up alongside the streets of the Nasinu municipality are a health concern, Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said.
And he confirmed that his ministry has had talks with the Nasinu Town Council on the best way to address the issue.
“The Nasinu Town Council has a strategy to remove (the rubbish),” he said.
Streets in Nasinu still have uncollected piles of garbage. Rubbish was not collected on a daily basis as stated on the council’s schedule.
And residents of Nasinu continue to put rubbish outside on the streets.
The rubbish piles are not only an eyesore, but a health risk as residents have conveniently piled up kitchen refuse in places where the green waste and white goods are piled.
In a statement, Nasinu and Nausori special administrator team chair Elizabeth Algar said the Council, in coordination with the Ministry of Local Government, had effectively embarked on a green waste/white good clean-up campaign in the greater Nasinu area.
“The aim of this campaign is not only to clean the streets and roadsides, but also to educate people about the good habits of waste reduction and management in their daily lives,” she said.
There has been no indication of whether the Nasinu Town Council would be revising the collection schedule for certain areas.
