Singh Leads ACS

There is a change at the helm of one of the top girls’ schools in the country.
Bharti Singh has been appointed the acting principal of Adi Cakobau School (ACS) in Sawani.
Ms Singh has been a teacher for the past 22 years.
The former Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School principal said there would be challenges.
This is the first time that a teacher, who is an Indo-Fijian, has been appointed as the head of the school.
Adi Cakobau was established in 1948 to provide a boarding school education, originally for iTaukei girls of rank. Many iTaukei women leaders have since come from Adi Cakobau School.
“I look forward to a very wonderful experience. I know there will be challenges. It will be different from the last two postings,” Ms Singh said.
“I am very impressed with the marks the Year 10, 12 and 13 students had achieved last year. The percentage passes at all three levels were in the 90s.
“I am looking forward to the start of school next week.”
Ms Singh was born in Savusavu. She has been posted at schools in Savusavu, Sabeto, Rakiraki, Lautoka, Ba and Labasa.
For Ms Singh, there is also a sense of nostalgia when school starts. She was also a boarder at an all-girls college in India.
