All efforts are being made to avoid a major traffic congestion because of a large hole in the road dug by Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to do repairs.

A small hole in the road, hazardous to drivers, had formed because of a collapsed trunk in Ratu Mara Road, just in front of a bus stop adjacent to the car park for the Shop n Save supermarket and other business in the same building.

Currently, there is only one lane heading to Suva. With school starting on Monday, many commuters who follow the route are forecasting slow moving traffic which could end up as far as Nasinu.

WAF acting team leader corporate Peni Shute said all efforts were being done to fix the road by Monday.

“We have talked with the Fiji Roads Authority and they will help us to ensure the works are done by Monday,” he said.

“We have done the main repair, which was the trunk and we have replaced it. We have started filling the hole and with FRA’s help we are hoping to finish before Monday.

“But if things do not go according to plan, we will be advising the public.”

People travel from beyond Nausori to work and to attend school in Suva.

Seremaia Tuicala, a businessman from Nausori, said he hoped that the repairs would be done on time.

Janesh Nand of Nakasi said the clear flow of traffic was important. He said a major obstruction in Nabua would affect the flow of traffic all the way to Nausori.
