Police Officer Granted Leave To Travel Overseas

A Police officer who is charged with careless driving has been granted leave to travel overseas.

Abhinay Prasad appeared yesterday before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama at the Magistrates Court in Suva

The defence told the court that they had filed a notice of motion and affidavit for Prasad because he wished to travel to New Zealand for his leave. Prasad intends to travel from January 23 to February 7.

The defence also told the court that Prasad’s visa application was being processed and was soon to receive confirmation.

The State lawyer from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) told the court that they had no objections on the notice and affidavit filed.

Magistrate Bodaragama granted the leave for Prasad, provided that he would sign a cash bail bond of $10,000. The matter was adjourned for mention on March 3. Bail for Prasad was further extended.
