Fiji Bus Operators Association president and KBL executive chairman Nasir Ali Shah has assured the public that they are not in the business of shutting down.

While a lot of misinformation has been spread by fake accounts on social media, Mr Shah said bus operation would continue as normal.

“There’s no intention of any bus company closing operation or making the public suffer unless and until the bus operators stop then that’s their decision and not the Fiji Bus operators’ association,” he said.

Mr Shah said a lot of misinformation has been spread by fake accounts on social media to try and discredit most bus operators.

“Social media is doing more damage than anything else, the bus operators aren’t doing anything wrong, we just want to make sure that everyone is afloat,” he said.

He said the Fiji Bus Operators Association is hopeful for a possible fare increase to ensure each bus operator had a fair return on investments.

“We are just going through a trying period and some can continue while others cannot We just want to make sure that the staff are reasonably paid and we can do maintenance and fill the fuel,” he said.

He also urged the public to top up their cards and not give money to bus drivers as most of the money is pocketed by drivers.

“We want to work with the government because they are doing their part by giving students subsidized cards and we want to ensure that the most convenient and cheapest transport is available,” he said.
