Apart from bringing tourists and boosting Savusavu’s economy, Nawi Island Limited (NIL) is also doing its bit for the environment through its mangrove rehabilitation programme.

The company has been organising and planting mangroves along the Savusavu shorelines.

Since the launch of the programme in 2013, NIL has so far planted 15,000 mangrove seedlings.

Michael Gann, the managing director for Nawi Island Limited had earlier said their programme had at least an 80 to 85 per cent success rate.

More than five schools, including parents, have been participating in the rehabilitation programme.

Nawi Island Limited has also employed a full time marine biologist who specialises in corals as well as looking after the mangroves.

NIL is in the process of rolling out a huge community involvement.
