A former Fijian Police officer living in the united States had plans to travel to Fiji, unfortunately, he died after being struck by a car on Coffee Road in Modesto, California on Saturday evening

Lone son, Ratnesh Dass, a former student of Sabeto College recalled the freak accident that led to the death of his father, Ravindra Dass.

Mr Dass said the family originated from a Sugar cane farming area in Waimalika, Sabeto, Nadi.

“Our families here and overseas are in shock and cannot believe that Dad is no more,” he said from Modesto, California.

“I am still in shock to this hour, I was supposed to book his ticket for his travel to Fiji on Sunday, but he died on Saturday night.

“The last chat we had was that he said he was to buy my medication, take a rest then we will meet at the temple later on. My knees shook when I was relayed the news that night.”

Mr Dass added that there was a big 62 birthday bash also planned for May this year.

“We had lived together. He was a very friendly and caring person. I am all alone now with my wife now as my mum had passed away in 2012 with cancer.”

According to Modesto Police, the collision occurred between Floyd Avenue and Ensenada Drive.

Sergeant Eric Schuller said the call came in at 6. 51pm.

“A witness told Police the man stepped into the roadway from the west side of Coffee, across from Ensenada, when he was hit by a car traveling south in the right lane on Coffee,” Sergeant Schuller said.

Mr Dass added that an autopsy would be conducted and the funeral schedule would be announced respectively.

The late Mr Dass was a student of Natabua High School before he joined the Fiji Police Force in 1982.

He also worked for the Fiji Airports Limited for two years before he migrated with the whole family in 2000.

He worked for the Empire Union School District until his passing.

He is survived by son Mr Dass.
