Fiji Football Association has shortlisted five expatriates for the position of the national coach.

Fiji FA’s chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf the new coach will be named by January 22.

Yusuf said out of the 37 applicants, 8 were shortlisted and the final 5 are going through the interview process.

Yusuf added once the appointment has been finalised, the national team will then prepare for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in June, September and November.

He also added they have yet to discuss and confirm the salary range that will be offered.

“Now we have gone down to the final 5 candidates,” Yusuf said.

“We are targeting the most likely candidate and the once we have chosen the coach we will fly him over.

“We have a very busy schedule as the national team will be planning for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.”

Yusuf said they have shifted the 2020 Courts Inter-District Championship to the end of October and not on October 10.

Former national coach, Christophe Gamel resigned in August last year due to personal reasons.
