No Grog, No Special Meals For Chief Guests During School Hours: Akbar
Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Rosy Akbar.

No grog, no special meals or special garlands for chief guests.

These were some of the things highlighted by the Minister of Education, Heritage and Arts, Rosy Akbar, during a meeting on Tuesday with heads of schools in Nadroga Navosa at the Sigatoka Village Hall. She cautioned heads of schools not to entertain chief guests or education divisional officers with grog during school hours.

“For official functions especially with education divisional officers when they come to your school, don’t entertain them with grog. If you do there will be a problem. It is a code of conduct not to drink grog during school hours,” she said.

“No special meal or special garland for a chief guest. I don’t want to see any garland this year,” she said.

“I don’t want you to take me to a corner and feed me with fish curry and rice and the staff are having sandwiches. You have your dignity and respect as teachers and you need to maintain that.

“When there is an official function, you give parents takeaway packs with some cakes and sandwiches and the chief guest goes to a home economic room and is given a big feast. Don’t use my grant money for that.”

The minister told them that a good acknowledgement to chief guests was just a word of appreciation.
