Two youths of Nakodu village in Koro have set goals to become independent when they complete their five-year yaqona planting plan.

Kalivati Bale, 20, and Aminiasi Boleinakodu, 25, hope to plant 6000 to 7000 yaqona plants each in the next five years.

Their adviser is a family member, Reverend Sakeasi Rabitu, of the Mosi Methodist Circuit in Nadi.

Rev Rabitu said the two men slept in their farm house from Monday to Friday.

“Their target is to plant 1000 yaqona in a year,” he said.

For their first harvest, Mr Bale said, they would build their houses in the village.

“[Their] houses will have solar electricity and will be fully furnished,” he said.

Mr Bale added they would also buy a house each in Suva and have them rented.

“We will also buy a vehicle each to help us on the island.”

He said they planted and sold dalo and the money was used to pay villagers to work on their farms.

The two young farmers are on a break and are helping Rev Rabitu with his farm.
