Fifty-four soldiers leaving Fiji this Saturday to help in the Australia bushfire crisis have been reminded by the Land Force Commander Colonel Manoa Gadai to uphold the ethos and values of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) at all times.

“I reminded them to maintain the highest standard of discipline and uphold the ethos and values of the RFMF at all times,” he said to the Fiji Sun.

Col Gadai also reminded them to focus on the tasks that were ahead of them, which was part of the two countries’ Vuvale Strategic Partnership.

He said it was important that they were fully prepared mentally, physically and spiritually.

“When you return you should be proud, knowing that you have fully achieved our strategic and political intents.”

Given this is the first RFMF deployment to Australia, Col Gadai said it was important they set the highest possible standard.

He said he had called this an RFMF Climate Change Disaster Emergency Response deployment rather than the usual Human Assistance and Disaster Relief.

The soldiers were farewelled at a church service at the RFMF Chapel yesterday.
