Cylone Tino: Fiji Police Conduct Search For Missing Father And Daughter In Navua River

Two people are missing in the Navua River as Tropical Cyclone Tino, is expected to hit Vanua Levu today.

A school teacher and his primary school aged daughter are missing after being swept away by strong currents while crossing the flooded river yesterday.

Police spokesperson Savaira Tabua confirmed that the incident happened yesterday afternoon. It is believed that the school teacher, a man, and his daughter believed to be around nine or 10 years old, attempted to swim across the flooded river near Nuku.

The heavy rain brought about by the current weather system has raised river level and strong currents. Police from Navua conducted the search yesterday and called it off later in the evening because of the darkness.

Search will resume today.
