Cyclone Tino Strengthens Into A Category 2 System, Expected To Move Away From Fiji Later Today

At 3 am this morning, Tino was located approximately 105km East-southeast of Vanua Balavu. Tino is still maintaining a Southeastward movement but has picked up speed. It is now travelling at 36km/hr. It has intensified and is now a CAT 2 system with wind speeds of 110km/hr close to its centre.

Cyclone Tino Strengthens Into A Category 2 System, Expected To Move Away From Fiji Later Today

Weather brief as at 6.30am on Saturday,18 January 2020.

At 3 am this morning, Tino was located approximately 105km East-southeast of Vanua Balavu. Tino is still maintaining a Southeastward movement but has picked up speed. It is now travelling at 36km/hr. It has intensified and is now a CAT 2 system with wind speeds of 110km/hr close to its centre.

A Storm warning remains in force for Vanua Balavu, Tuvuca, Nayau and Lakeba,

A Gale Warning remains in force for all the other Islands in the Lau group(except for Yasayasa Moala).

The Gale warning that was in force for Eastern Viti Levu and Vanua Levu is now downgraded to Strong wind warning.

Generally overcast with some rain(which will be heavy at times)and windy conditions expected other parts of Fiji who are not covered in the areas being warned for above.

TINO is expected to move out of Fiji waters later today(as early as this afternoon).

Whilst the weather is expected to gradually improve for Fiji from today, the focus now shifts to our neighbours, Tonga and Niue.
