2020 Coke Games To Be Held In Suva

The Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association will stage the Coca-Cola Games in Suva this year after initial plans to move the competition to Lautoka’s Churchill Park.
Association President Filimoni Vuli Waqa said, initially, the plan was to keep the competition in Suva give that Lautoka would be hosting the Melanesian Championship in June this year.
“Everybody’s was looking forward to Lautoka’s Churchill Park in fact, we wanted to book it but it was booked by Athletics Fiji for the Melanesian championship,” Waqa said.
“We were informed by authorities from Lautoka that Churchill Park would be closed by November 2019 because it needed some renovations and later on there was one 7s tournament that was supposed to be held in the same ground.
“So we withdrew our intention to go to Lautoka simply because of that issue and that is the reason we are having it back at the ANZ Stadium in Suva”.
Waqa adds they will not be introducing the Hurdle events at the Coke games this year as per their original plans.
“The association agreed during the meeting that we will be introducing the Hurdle events that is in the 110 meters for the boys and 100 meters for the girls,” he said.
“That is not the case now; there will be no hurdle events during the Coke games because it will be unfair for other zones that don’t have the equipment for the event.”
The 2020 Coca Cola Games will be held from on April 16-18 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
