Two former Fiji reps have called on fans to back the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side at the New Zealand and Australia leg of the World 7s Series, which starts this weekend.

Former 7s rep Setefano Cakau and Bua Bullet Rupeni Caucau believe Gareth Baber’s side deserve the public’s full backing given what they have achieved in the past.

Baber has named an experienced 13-men squad which left for New Zealand yesterday morning.

Cakau, 41 said: “It is time for us to wish them all the best. Even we say this and that it will not change anything.

“We don’t want any curse to follow the team. They need our backing so let’s give them that.”

Caucau, meanwhile, believes the team will improve with everyone backing them.

He believes that the group are raring to hit the field after trainig for five weeks following poor displays in Dubai and Cape Town.

“The boys have been training well under the eyes of coach,” Caucau said.

“We just have to back the team up, and we hope they improve as they go along. It is important for the fans to back them up and we wish them all the best.”

The Hamilton 7s will run from January 25-26 at the FMG Stadium ,

The Fijians are pooled with Argentina, Australia and Samoa.
