Meli Proud To Lead Fijian 7s Side In Hamilton

Meli Derenalagi is looking forward to leading the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side during the New Zealand 7s in Hamilton this weekend.
Just a year on from his debut, the Nawaka, Nadi, native was chosen by head coach Gareth Baber to co-captain the side alongside playmaker Seremaia Tuwai.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces Naval Division officer made his debut during the 2018-2019 World Series.
The duo will share the leadership role in the absence of skipper Paula Drainisinikula, who has been sidelined with a hand injury.
Derenalagi was among the 13 players that departed Fiji yesterday.
He said: “It was once a dream but I need to make it happen so I need to make the dream happen.
“It is quite challenging for me. But I will have a few experienced players on my side and they will support me during the games this week.
“I’m looking to pull up my socks and I will be leading them in a strict way in a strict manner to put their mindset on the games this weekend.”
He said the team was plotting a way to bounce back in Hamilton and, Sydney the following week, after a poor start to the World 7s Series.
Fiji is pooled with Argentina, Australia and Samoa.
