Production Order Issued For Accused Receiving Treatment At Mental Hospital

The High Court in Suva has issued a production order for an alleged murder accused, who is receiving treatment at the Saint Giles Hospital.
The matter was called before High Court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge yesterday.
Fabiano Dakai is alleged to have murdered a 34-year-old security guard Timoci Dogai of Waidradra on February 4, 2019.
Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Kimberly Semisi, told the court that the report from the St Giles Hospital was received by the State yesterday.
She told the court that the report stated that Dakai was fit to take a plea in the matter, that Dakai was aware of the case and that he was able to participate in the court proceedings.
Defence counsel from the Legal Aid Commission, Namrata Mishra, told the court that her client had a history of mental illness and was receiving his medications.
The court also heard that the accused was not present in court because he was remanded at the St Giles Hospital receiving his treatment.
The matter has been adjourned for mention on February 12.
