Market vendors in Savusavu are hopeful that the condition of the temporary shelter would be improved soon.

The temporary shelter was unsatisfactory and most of the valued items were affected by the recent cyclones.

Market Vendors Association Vice President, Rosalia Sui said the valued items had lost their value as they had been exposed to the adverse weather conditions.

Ms Suli said that in 2018 the UN Women had partnered with the Ministry of Local Government to construct the new market which had been scheduled for completion last month.

“Savusavu is a tourist town and it is embarrassing to showcase our valued items like this.

“When TC Sarai came, the masi got wet and we could not sell it,” Ms Suli said.

“The heat is unbearable on a hot day, we can’t stand the heat.

“I hope the town council would at least improve the temporary shelter as we await the completion of the construction of the municipal market,” she said.

Attempts to contact the Savusavu and Labasa Town Council board chairman Justin Hunter were unsuccessful.
