Pillay’s Garment has made the Champion Versus Champion (CvC) their own, says Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf.

Speaking during the official launch of the Pillay’s Garment CvC in Suva yesterday, Yusuf said that the series was the brainchild of former Fiji FA CEO, the late J.D Maharaj.

“This competition marks the start of the season,” he said.

This year Vodafone Premier League champions Ba take on Courts Interdistrict winners Labasa. The first clash gets underway at Churchill Park, Lautoka tomorrow at 7pm while the return clash kicks-off at 3pm at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori on Sunday.

Yusuf said another highlight of the series is the 18-year sponsorship of Pillay’s Garment.

“From a sponsorship of $12,000 when they first came in, to today, it has gone up to $28,000.

“We’re grateful to the company’s support towards the development of football in the country.”

Pillay’s Garment managing director Narend Pillay said he was thankful to Fiji FA for giving him a chance to sponsor the series.

Fiji FA vice-president Yogeshwar Singh highlighted that $5000 will be given to the CvC winner and went on to congratulate Ba for winning the series for the most number of times. Edited by Osea Bola
