There will be no charter flights from China to Fiji for this year’s Spring Festival. Rosie Holidays General Manager Eroni Puamau further added that there would definitely be charter flights from China later in the year.

Mr Puamau said these charter flights are not cheap and their investment with Fiji Airways over the past five years has been over FJ$10 million alone in operating these charters.

Potential

He said: “We continue to see potential for charter flights in 2020 despite the softening market and will be working closely with Fiji Airways to grow this segment of our business from China.”

The company’s cost of marketing and promotions in China over the past 15 years has grown significantly and also in line with other expectations and targets from this market.

He said Rosie Holidays was the first Fijian company to operate charter flights from China to Fiji which started in 2015 with flights with Fiji Airways from Shanghai to Nadi during the Chinese New Year period.

Last year, Rosie Holidays handled close to fifteen thousand Chinese visitors which is approximately one third of the total Chinese visitors arrivals into Fiji.

Meanwhile, he said people travelling overseas need to be vigilant with the outbreak of the coronavirus in China.

He stated that their counterparts in China have advised them that the Chinese officials have set up health centres at the airports to screen passengers exhibiting symptoms possibly connected with the coronavirus.
