A 34-year-old man, who is alleged to have murdered a fellow islander in Rotuma last year has been further remanded in custody.

Suliana Kafoa appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Kafoa is charged with one count of murder.

It is alleged that Kafoa on December 19, 2019, in Rotuma, murdered the deceased following a drinking party.

It is alleged that Kafoa and the deceased were drinking when an argument broke out and the accused assaulted the deceased by punching him.

Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Meli Vosawale, told the court that the State has yet to receive the post-mortem examination report of the deceased.

He sought 21 days to file information and disclosures on the matter.

Defence counsel from the Legal Aid Commission, Krisheel Chang told the court that the accused’s application was new to the commission and he has yet to obtain instructions on his bail.

Justice Goundar ordered prosecution to file and serve the information and disclosures by February 10.

The matter has been adjourned for plea to February 10.
