Fijians Living In Wuhan City Test Negative For Coronavirus
The number of coronavirus cases continue to rise daily in China.

Fijians studying in Wuhan City, China, have been tested negative from the novel coronavirus epidemic in China.

This was confirmed by the Fijian Embassy in China yesterday.

A statement from the embassy said: “The Fijian students living and studying in Wuhan City underwent all the necessary blood tests for the novel coronavirus and their results came out negative.”

The Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, has reiterated the ministry’s strong stand on strengthening our border control systems and screenings. This follows the latest report of a confirmed coronavirus case in Melbourne, Australia.

“We are closely monitoring and working with the relevant stakeholders, including airport authorities and airlines, to enhance existing mechanisms for detecting ill travellers,” Dr Waqainabete said.

“We have alerted our healthcare workers and emphasized that they must ask about history of travel for anyone that presents symptoms,” he said.

“Early detection of cases and rapid response will help prevent the spread of this disease in Fiji.”

Since yesterday, the Chinese Government has confirmed 1287 concases of the virus with a death toll of 41.
