World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year Seremaia Tuwai is easily one of the most important players in the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side.

On the field, Tuwai’s proficiency in attack as well as defence has seen him become a key figure in coach Gareth Baber and predecessor Ben Ryan’s respective teams.

The 30-year-old can score tries, tackle hard, win ball at the breakdown and, perhaps most importantly, create space for his teammates to exploit.

Those attributes were on full display at the New Zealand 7s in Hamilton yesterday, where Tuwai reached yet another milestone that cemented his name as one of Fiji’s greatest players.

Tuwai’s try in the third minute against Samoa was the 126th of his career, making him Fiji’s top try-scored on the 7s circuit.

Below him are Nasoni Roko (125), Osea Kolinisau (122), Samisoni Viriviri (120) and William Ryder (105).

The Buca, Cakaudrove native dedicated the win to his family and the Fijian fans, saying in a post-match interview that they were his sources of inspiration.

“We love coming to Hamilton because of the amazing support. It’s like we are playing in Suva and it is very exciting for us to come here and have a good tournament,” he said.

“Thank you very much for everyone who has helped me along the way, especially my mother, my father, brothers and sisters , my two kids and wife.”
