Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has once again delivered what he promised, this time a new teachers’ quarters for a school in a remote part of Vanua Levu.

In 2017, Mr Bainimarama listened to the pleas of staff members of Uluivalili College in Wailevu West, Cakaudrove.

Yesterday he opened the new $268,000 building.

“That day I personally committed to funding this new project and I am proud to return here now to commission another delivered promise,” he said.

Mr Bainimarama said whenever he visited parts of Fiji, he valued the time spent in communities and speaking to fellow Fijians, learning their needs and wants and exploring how Government can assist. “The Government I lead does not sit in the comfort of our offices in Suva.

“We all know that a great teacher can have a lifelong impact and they hold the future of so many young Fijians in their hands every day.

“For this reason, my Government has recognised that we cannot take the comfort or quality of life of Fijian teachers for granted,” he said.

Acting principal, Rupeni Vulaca, said they were happy of the two new quarters because it was one of a kind. It is a solid and standard building.

The college has 250 students, 18 teachers and there are now 12 quarters in the school.

Mr Bainimarama will also be visiting sites and families who were affected by the recent cyclones.

“My visit to the North is not only about what we’ve lost, but also it is about the strength and resilience of Vanua Levu and the many things we’re building together, the benefit of every Fijian who call this island, home,” he said.
