The presence of an eight-month-old baby boy caught the attention of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama when he was opening the Korotari Crossing in Labasa yesterday.

The sight of Mohammed Zoraiz, the only baby among the crowd braving the hot sun to witness the event was what drew his attention.

After the formalities Mr Bainimarama walked up to Mohammed who was on his grandfather’s arm at the crossing.

“Hey brave boy don’t be under the sun, it’s too hot,” Mr Bainimarama said to Mohammed while wiping the sweat on his nose.

“Thank you for coming; take care.”

Mohammed’s grandfather Abdul Nazim Ali said it was a proud moment for him.

“I work as a supervisor for Kashmir Transport Limited and our company built this crossing,” Mr Ali said.

“To keep my achievement as a lasting memory I thought to bring my grandson to witness the opening and see Fiji’s leader.

“In the near future I can proudly tell Mohammed that we were the first to walk on the crossing after the opening by the Prime Minister.”
