The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s players are determined to do the country proud in this weekend’s Sydney Sevens in Australia.

Co-captain Meli Derenalagi said after the Captain’s photoshoot at the Bankwest Stadium yesterday that they are trying hard to deliver their best performance.

“We’ve seen our weakness and we are trying to improve on it,” he said.

Derenalagi highlighted that they are well aware of the expectations of the nation on them to win their first Sydney tournament.

“We are working hard as we don’t want to disappoint our fans who usually turn up in big numbers to cheer us on when we play in Sydney.”

Meanwhile, it was a big moment for rookie Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s halfback Tokasa Seniyasi when she given the captain’s job.

This was after captain Raijeli Daveua had to return home due to injury.

“We need to keep on working hard and improve on our game,” she said.

Seniyasi indicated that after the Sydney tournament they are targeting to move up to the seventh spot as they are in the eighth position.

She pointed out after the Hamilton tournament, they have been working on their defensive structure.

“This was one area we saw as a weakness and will like to improve on it before the Sydney games.

“Also, we’ve been working on our communication during our games which is important as well.”
