Ratu Wiliame Asks PM For A New Police Post For Naduri

Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has suggested that there be a new Police Post to be based at Naduri to oversee and patrol around in Kia Island for night divers and poachers.
Ratu Wiliame was speaking during the talanoa session with the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, on Kia Island yesterday.
The more than 300 people of Kia Island depend on the sea for survival.
They get over-protective of their resources, especially, when being fished by poachers and night divers, the Prime Minister was told.
Ligau village headman Ratu Vukinavanua said they had made numerous reports to the Police station requesting for assistance but nothing had been done.
However, the Department of Fisheries said they had been able to catch a few poachers when patrolling the area.
Ratu Wiliame said there was a piece of land available in Naduri to construct the Police Post.
He said the Police Post would help the Department of Fisheries monitor poaches in Macuata waters as many poachers did not have a licence.
Prime Minister was also told there was no water source on the island, and villagers requested for water tanks.
Villagers also requested for a seawall, installation of solar panels and network coverage for mobile services.
Mr Bainimarama told the people that they will have to do their own survey before making their decision on the requests.
