Measles is now behind us, and as for coronavirus, we have some strategies in place.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete during a visit to the Northern Division last week.

“Although Coronavirus is here we have to make sure that we continue the hard work on the ground in terms of preventing dengue, typhoid, leptospirosis, Non-Communicable Diseases,” he said.

“It is not like these diseases will switch off when coronavirus is here.”

Fiji Emergency Medical Assistance Teams (FEMAT):

Dr Waqainabete commended the work carried out by the Fiji Emergency Medical Assistance Teams (FEMAT).

Last week Dr Waqainabete was in the Northern Division to observe the work carried out by FEMAT.

These teams were deployed to maritime islands to assist in the government’s recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Tino.

FEMAT had visited 40 villages around the country including villages in the Lau group.

‘We have to make sure that we do our community outreach very well and I am very happy with the work FEMAT has carried out.”
