Joseph Mitchell was thinking of his late mother when he was badged head boy of Queen Victoria School yesterday.

His mother, Serafina Toga Mitchell, died in 2016 when Joseph was only 4 weeks into the school year.

Since then, his father, Leslie Percy Mitchell, has singlehandedly raised the all-rounder student.

He travelled from Taveuni to be at the ceremony yesterday.

Joseph hails from Soso Village, Wainikeli, Cakaudrove.

Last year, he was part of the winning QVS side that won the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union 2019 Vodafone Under 18 Deans Trophy.

He was in the first line-up at loose head prop.

Joseph is a Technical Science student.

He will be assisted by two deputies, Jone Naulu and Ropate Rinakama.

Outgoing British High Commissioner Melanie Hopkins officiated at the ceremony.

She spoke about the qualities of young male leadership, a brief history about British ties to with Fiji and the connection between QVS and the Royal Family.
