22 Year Old Man Facing Attempted Murder Charge, Alleged Assault Of De Facto Partner

A 22-year-old man who is alleged to have tried to murder his de facto partner has been further remanded in custody.
Ravin Prasad appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe at the High Court in Suva yesterday.
Prasad is charged with one count each of attempted murder and assault causing actual bodily harm.
It is alleged that on November 22, 2019, at Nasinu, Prasad attempted to murder his de facto partner, 30.
It is also alleged that Prasad, on November 22, 2019, at Nasinu, unlawfully assaulted the complainant by punching her face several times, thereby causing her actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Bhavna Kantharia, said she would need time to respond to the bail application.
Defence lawyer Sunil Gosaiy from Jiten Reddy lawyers told the court that the accused was not ready to take his plea at this stage.
Justice Rajasinghe ordered the State to file its bail response by February 17 and defence to file its reply by February 20.
The matter has been adjourned for plea on February 10 and bail hearing on February 21.
