The five-day trial of a 39-year-old doctor, whose licence to practise has been suspended, will start on February 17.

Marvin Ray Ketenilagi, appeared in the High Court in Suva before Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge.

Ketenilagi is charged with one count of manslaughter.

It is alleged that on January 25, 2018, in Suva, Ketenilagi assaulted Shri Chand, which resulted in Chand’s death.

At the time of the assault, Ketenilagi was reckless.

The deceased was 64-years-old at the time of the offence.

Ketenilagi was represented by David Toganivalu.

The prosecution was represented by Sujata Lodhia from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Ms Lodhia said the agreed facts of the matter were filed and served to the court and the defence counsel.

She also told the court that the State would be relying on the caution interview statement of the accused in which he allegedly admitted to being at the crime scene.

Mr Toganivalu said there was no challenge by the defence on the caution interview statement.

The matter has been adjourned for trial. Bail for Ketenilagi has been further extended.
