Alleged Rapist Father Pleads Not Guilty

A 48-year-old father charged for the rape of his daughter has pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The accused appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe yesterday.
He is charged with five counts of rape.
The alleged incidents occurred between January 1, 2018, and August 31, 2019, at Navua.
The complainant was 14 years old at the time of the alleged offences.
The accused was represented in court by lawyer Krisheel Chang from the Legal Aid Commission.
Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Unaisi Tamanikayaroi, told the court that there were no admissions in the caution interview statement.
The matter has been adjourned for mention on pre-trial conference on February 26.
The accused has been further remanded in custody.
