The village headman of Ketei Village in Totoya, Lau, has discovered a marijuana farm on the island.

Yanuyanu Uludole was checking on a recently burnt pine plantation right on the border of Ketei and Tovu village on Friday when he found the farm.

“Right at the top of the plantation, I found a road that led me to the marijuana farm. I know what a marijuana plant looks like,” he said.

He said there was also a weed spray on the farm.

Mr Uludole said he uprooted all the plants and reported the matter to the village chaplain, Reverend Pajimi Vakaloloma.

He had also reported the matter to the Police station in Naroi, Moala.

Mr Uludole said he was told that a Police officer would be arriving on board the MV Kaunitoni to look into the matter.

All the marijuana plants were kept at Rev Vakaloloma’s compound.

He said a few years back a marijuana farm was also found, and after the Police investigation, the owner was taken to Suva and was later charged and jailed.

Mr Uludole said he always suspected that some of the youths smoked marijuana.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday confirmed that they had received a report from Ketei village.

She commended Mr Uludole for reporting the matter to the Police in Naroi. Ms Naisoro said an officer was going to conduct the investigation.
