Former national rugby sevens prop Sailosi Nawavu believes the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team can retain the HSBC World Sevens Series title and win the Olympic Games gold medal in July.

Nawavu was present during the mini- Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s series at the Nawaka District School ground, Nadi yesterday.

“The Fijian rugby sevens team are the defending champions of the Olympic who I believe can do better and learn from the mistakes they have done from the previous tournaments,” he said.

Nawavu believes the team need to work on their combination, improve on their skills and the need to stay disciplined at all times.

“They need to work more on their ball handling and some other indiscipline attitudes which have resulted in yellow cards.

“For the team combination, I think we need to understand that it may not work well in the first and second game but after a few games, it will work out well.

“That is part of a learning process but we need to improve on our mistakes, work hard and try to perform better.

“I believe Fiji can win the series title and retain the Olympic gold medal.

He added that the players do not need to be swayed by the emotions of the fans.

“I was one of the sevens players and I know how fans are crazy about the game. They always criticise when the team loses and we as rugby players need to accept that,” he added.
