Satishwar Chand was a proud father on Friday when he badged his son, Dishal as the head boy of Labasa Sangam Primary School.

Mr Chand said he was informed that his son was one of the candidates for the role when the teachers cast their vote.

“After discussion the teachers cast their vote in a secret ballot box and the candidate who received the highest vote was chosen as head boy.

“Dishal has always been dedicated in his school work and participates in cultural activities such as singing,” he said.

“I had always been worried about his workload but I now believe he can take the challenge.”

Dishal said: “My parents (mother, Ronika Devi and dad) are my role models because they have always been there for me,” Dishal said.

The 12-year-old hopes to become a football rep.

Head girl, Makelesi Savua of Delailabasa, said her parents too were her role models.

“My mother is Miliana Savua, a lecturer at the Fiji National University and father, Lemeki Savua, works for the Fiji Rugby Union,” Makelesi said.

“I was not surprised to be chosen as the head girl because I was the deputy head girl last year.

“For my new role I will act responsibly and be a good example to students.
