For the first time in the history of Nadogo Central College in the Macuata Province, a student was selected for two leadership roles.

Vilimone Mualevu Kolivuso was badged as head boy of the school and the hostel head boy.

The 18-year-old recalled the times he was a day scholar and the time it took for him travelling to and from school.

“When I was in Year 9 and Year 10 I used to leave my home, Lakeba Village in Namuka District, at 5:45am to get into the bus and reach school after 8am,” he said.

“Also, after school when I get into the bus I reach home after 7pm.”

It was only when he was in Year 11 that he started boarding.

“My father, who is a fisherman, and the only breadwinner in the family is very proud of my achievement.”

The youngest of six said: “I love challenges and this year my aim is to minimise discipline cases and work with teachers to help with the operation of the school.”

Vilimone aspires to become a soldier like his uncle, Navitalai Logaivou.

Head girl, Vandhana Prasad of Daku, Labasa, said: I am very proud of this school and being the head girl makes me feel very fortunate.”

There are 79 school prefects, 18 hostel prefects, 35 teachers and 452 students from Year 9 to Year 13.
