Lami High School athlete Viliame Vakaselo will carry the hopes of his school to the Coca-Cola Games.

Vakaselo’s throw of 49.47metres in the intermediate boy’s javelin division during the inter-house at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday was enough to book his spot for the zone meet.

“I was preparing from last year during the holidays it was hard but it’s worth it and to win here it’s a plus because it sets the platform for the zone and Coke games,” he said.

“My preparations have been a tough one especially when I have to do it all alone with no one at home.

“I usually come to the stadium and make use of the facilities and the coaches available for their guidance.”

“I started throwing this year, it’s a challenge for me but nothing is hard. I know I have what it takes to win gold.”

The Macuata native from Vanua Levu has set his sights on winning the gold medal at the Coca-Cola Games.

“I will not dwell much on the win here but shift my focus onto the zone that will happen soon.

“So I have to lift my preparations to another level because there will be competition from other schools.

“To win gold at the Coke Games will be tough and to break the record will be tougher.

“I need to focus more on getting the basics of javelin right since I have a lot of time on my side.”

Meanwhile, Bubua House were crowned the 2020 inter-house champions with 35 gold, 40 silver, 27 bronze medals, Vesi House came second with 25 gold, 20 silver, 24 bronze medals and Dakua with 23 gold medals, 27 silver and 22 bronze.
