The Sigatoka River Safari sponsored- Nadroga Rugby players will give their best against the Southland Invitational XV on Thursday, says a senior official.

Nadroga Rugby Union president Tiko Matawalu said this is a good build-up before the Skipper Cup Premiership starts.

“We’re not going to any ordinary destination but to New Zealand where rugby is treated as a religion,” the former Flying Fijians prop said.

“We are playing a team that has won the Ranfurly Shield six times, which is the Southland Stags.

“They are putting an invitational side which is of the same calibre and standard. So, the challenge is for us to raise our level.”

The young Stallions are being backed by three veterans of Emosi Vucago, Setefano Somoca and Josese Kurokavu who are also there to guide and mentor them.

“We did not take this opportunity lightly. We watched the video and have studied them well.

“We are geared up to meet them. We are going with high expectations as we want our players to gain exposure and showcase their talents as well.”

The team departed our shores yesterday and will be hosted by the Fijian Southland community.

Matawalu thanked Sigatoka River Safari, BLK, Sigatoka Electric, Hyperchem Sigatoka and Southland Rugby Union for their support.

The Stallions will face the Southland Invitation XV on tomorrow at the Fred Booth Park in Waimumu in rural Southland.
