A Chinese national was badged school head boy of Suva Sangam College yesterday.

He Rongna was grateful and blessed to be given this opportunity to serve the school as a leader.

The 20-year-old said the appointment came as a surprise considering his communication skills and language barrier which he was still working on.

“Beacuse of the language barrier no one wants to be friends with me but it never stopped me from learning,” he said.

“My family arrived in Fiji in 2016 and now my parents are running a Hair Beauty Salon business,” he said.

“This was a good opportunity for me to study at Suva Sangam College.”

Rongna is from Guang Xi province of China. He aspires to be an accountant.

Head girl Olivia Bairo said a leadership role brings a person out of his or her comfort zone.

“Being appointed as the head girl was not a surprise for me,” she said.

She added that her parents have motivated her throughout her journey.

“Although my role will be challenging, I will work with the teachers and students as team players.”

The 19-year-old aspires to be a doctor in the future.
