About her career

She began her career as a flight attendant in 1989.

“I guess at that time it was who you know.

“My mother knew a lot of people in the industry, so she managed to get an interview.

“That day she was all dolled up rushing down the slope and she slipped.

“I remember she fell and her skirt got dirty and she was crying because she thought she was going to be late for the interview.

“I remember when she came back from the interview, my mom said she was so happy,” said Mrs Balekiwai.

The late Ms Yabaki hails from Fulaga, Lau, and completed her primary school education at Nabua Primary School before joining Jasper Williams High School, Ratu Sukuna Memorial School and Adi Cakobau School.

She was laid to rest at Nasinu Nine Miles at the same graveyard as her late namesake Adibau Atilaite Yabaki who passed away 13 years ago.

She was the third Fiji Airways flight attendant to be flown home after passing away abroad.

She was 51-years old and passed on in Christchurch, New Zealand on February 4, 2020.

She recently graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of the South Pacific.
