3-way Car Crash Disrupts Traffic Flow For An Hour

A taxi driver was rushed to hospital while two other drivers escaped unscathed yesterday after they were involved in a three-way vehicle crash along Kings Road.
The accident near the T-junction that links the Caubati and Wainivula roads disrupted traffic flow for more than an hour along Kings Road – the most commonly used traffic route within the Suva-Nausori corridor.
According to a witness, it was hard to say who was at fault. He said the grey private Toyota Prius and the white Toyota Fielder taxi could have tried to avert the accident.
Samuela Ciriwai, who was sitting at the bus stop located opposite the junction of Wainivula Road, said: “The grey car was heading towards Kinoya and the taxi was coming out of Wainivula Road, onto Kings Road. The grey Prius hit the taxi, spun out of control and hit a white Toyota Prius, which was turning into Wainivula Road,” he said.
“The grey car spun from this side of the road and ended up against the rails on the opposite side. All three cars were damaged. The taxi driver was taken to the hospital.”
The owner of the grey Toyota Prius, Avaresh Maharaj, said his damaged car was now beyond repair.
“I am grateful that no one died. My brother-in-law Ritesh could have ended up in the ditch had there been no guard railing,” he said.
Quick action from the Police led to traffic flow running smoothly again as they cleared away the accident scene.
Police spokesperson, Savaira Tabua, said they were now investigating.
