A taxi driver acted promptly in good faith when he witnessed an alleged hit-and-run accident at the bridge near Labasa Town yesterday.

Mahen Prasad was taking his passenger to Labasa Hospital when he witnessed the accident.

“All I heard was a bang and a white twin cab sped past,” he said.

“The driver of the twin cab, stopped a few metres in front before he sped off.”

It was then that Mr Prasad saw an elderly woman lying on the road.

He parked his taxi in the middle of the road and ran towards the injured woman.

“Fortunatley, the passenger in my taxi is a young doctor at the Labasa Hospital, he followed me to the woman and started applying first-aid.

“I managed to place a carton on the backseat to avoid the blood staining the seats. We quickly rushed the woman to the emergency department at the hospital.”

Mr Prasad, said motorists should slow down when approaching the bridge, especially when they see pedestrians on the road.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro confirmed the report and that the victim was taken to hospital.
